Passenger vehicle makers dispatched 4,54,574 units to dealers in September 2026, up 21.8% from 3,73,347 a year earlier, according to SIAM data reported by Angel One News on 15 October. It was the fastest growth of the three categories the report covers.
Two-wheelers and three-wheelers
Two-wheeler sales were 24.63 lakh units, up 13.5% from 21.70 lakh, an increase of about 2.93 lakh vehicles. The report says its source describes this figure as sales, while the passenger vehicle and three-wheeler figures are dispatches. Three-wheeler dispatches were 98,162, up 16% from 84,635, an increase of 13,527 vehicles and close to the one-lakh mark.
What the report leaves out
It does not cover commercial vehicles or exports, and it does not explain the drivers or quote SIAM.
Reading it with dealer data
On the two reports' figures, about 27,000 more passenger vehicles were dispatched than retailed in September: FADA's retail figure was 4,27,213 units, reported by Spectate Media on 19 October. That is consistent with the five-day rise in dealer stock that FADA reported, though the two bodies may not count identically.
Key numbers
- Passenger vehicles: 4,54,574 (+21.8% YoY)
- Two-wheelers: 24.63 lakh (+13.5% YoY)
- Three-wheelers: 98,162 (+16% YoY)
- Dispatches minus retail: About 27,000 (Passenger vehicles)
What boards and CFOs should note
Three points stand out. First, every category grew from a year earlier, but the comparison month was weak because buyers delayed purchases before the GST rate changes of 22 September 2025. Second, passenger vehicle growth of 21.8% is well ahead of two-wheelers at 13.5%. Third, dispatches ahead of retail add to dealer stock, so festive conversion matters for the next few months.
