The Rubber Board is preparing to introduce a new digital application named INR Konnect. This technology initiative is designed to bridge the gap between natural rubber growers and skilled workers. The primary objective of the application is to resolve the persistent shortage of qualified labour that has been affecting the agricultural sector.

According to the organisation, the digital platform will become functional in the near future. It will serve as a direct link, matching available tappers with estate owners who currently require their services. By facilitating these connections, the board hopes to restore regular tapping activities on estates where operations have recently stalled due to a lack of personnel.

To further combat the scarcity of skilled workers, the authority has initiated targeted training schemes. These educational efforts are specifically designed to bring more women into the tapping workforce and other estate operations. The board is actively executing these gender-focused training initiatives to improve female representation across the industry.

The specialised instruction equips participants with essential skills in estate management and latex harvesting. Over the course of a single month, the organisation successfully trained 1,256 women through its various educational schemes. These programmes are intended to generate new employment opportunities while simultaneously resolving the industry's pressing labour constraints.

Geographically, these training efforts have also extended into the northeastern region of the country. In this area, the board has provided instruction to 980 rural women, teaching them estate management, tapping techniques, and related agricultural activities. This regional focus aims to diversify the workforce and secure a local supply of skilled agricultural labour.

The educational campaigns are being driven by the National Institute for Rubber Training, an entity operating under the main board. This body runs dedicated programmes focusing on latex harvesting technology to prepare female workers for the field. Additionally, the institute has extended its educational outreach by offering internships to 92 students.

Through the combination of the upcoming INR Konnect digital application and these active training programmes, the authority is attempting to build a more resilient workforce. Plantation owners will soon have a direct digital avenue to source trained personnel, which could help stabilise production levels across the natural rubber sector.

Key numbers

  • Women trained in a month: 1,256
  • Rural women trained in northeast: 980
  • Student internships provided: 92

What a board might note

  • How might the upcoming launch of the INR Konnect digital platform by the Rubber Board alter our estate recruitment strategies and reduce operational disruptions caused by labour shortages?
  • Should the board evaluate the integration of the National Institute for Rubber Training's specialised programmes to upskill our local female workforce and improve estate management?
  • What opportunities exist to engage with the 92 student interns trained by the Rubber Board to build a pipeline of skilled technical talent for our plantation operations?
