The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises has released ₹1,000 crore of margin-money subsidy under the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme for 11,333 beneficiaries. The supported entrepreneurs have received bank-sanctioned project loans totalling approximately ₹3,260 crore to establish new micro enterprises, according to a PIB release dated 28 October 2026.
The ministry expects the enterprises covered by this tranche to generate more than 1.02 lakh employment opportunities, primarily in rural areas. PMEGP is a credit-linked subsidy programme for new non-farm micro enterprises and is implemented nationally by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission with other designated agencies.
Subsidy is linked to sanctioned bank loans
PMEGP assistance is provided as margin-money subsidy against project loans sanctioned by banks. The latest ₹1,000 crore release therefore sits alongside the ₹3,260 crore of approved credit rather than replacing bank financing.
KVIC field offices and implementing agencies also provide awareness, handholding, capacity building, market linkage, monitoring and post-establishment support. The release did not provide an industry-wise breakdown of the 11,333 businesses in the current tranche.
Because the subsidy is linked to creation of new units, disbursement and adjustment must be considered alongside loan documentation and evidence that the enterprise has been established. The release reports the aggregate tranche rather than beneficiary-level payment dates.
Rural and inclusive participation is emphasised
The ministry said the assistance targets women-led enterprise, participation by Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities, the North Eastern Region and Aspirational Districts. The expected employment figure is an estimate associated with enterprises being established, not a count of jobs already created.
Across PMEGP since FY2014–15, nearly 80% of assisted units have been established in rural areas. Around half of beneficiaries belong to SC, ST and OBC categories, while women own approximately 40% of the supported enterprises, according to the release.
Programme has supported 8.38 lakh units since FY2014–15
Since FY2014–15, PMEGP has facilitated more than 8.38 lakh micro enterprises through bank-sanctioned loans exceeding ₹70,000 crore and margin-money subsidy of over ₹25,193 crore. The ministry associated those units with approximately 75 lakh employment opportunities.
Before the latest release, the programme had supported 25,895 micro enterprises during FY2026–27 through October, with subsidy of ₹794.52 crore. The new tranche is additional to that amount.
The cumulative figures cover multiple programme years and should not be treated as the operating performance of the latest beneficiary group. Actual enterprise survival, revenue and employment will emerge after the supported units begin operations.
