India’s sixth National Startup Awards will recognise ventures across 20 sectors and three special categories, adding twelve areas that reflect the widening scope of the country’s emerging-business ecosystem.
New categories include biomanufacturing; electronics, semiconductors and advanced manufacturing; defence and security; future mobility; ocean and blue economy; space-tech, drones and aerospace; telecom and digital infrastructure; and travel and hospitality.
Applications remain open until 20 November through the Startup India portal.
A broader definition of innovation
The awards now span deep tech, climate technology, financial inclusion, logistics, healthcare, creative industries and rural livelihoods. This acknowledges that commercially relevant innovation is moving beyond consumer software into capital-intensive science, manufacturing and infrastructure.
Two startup-focused special categories cover women-led businesses and companies from the North-East. A new Student Innovator/Aspiring Entrepreneur award adds four sub-categories for school and college participants.
Eligible winners across the 20 sectoral categories and two startup special categories can receive ₹25 lakh per category. The student award has a total ₹25 lakh prize pool across its four sub-categories.
Recognition is not scale capital
Cash awards, mentorship and visibility can help early ventures, but frontier businesses still face longer product cycles, certification costs, procurement barriers and limited domestic risk capital. The programme’s value will depend on whether recognition leads to customers, technical validation and follow-on funding.
